A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.—Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Ján Hoffstädter

Fine artist, sculptor, Slovakia
Former chancellor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava

After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts (VŠVU) in Bratislava and before the Velvet revolution in 1989, he worked as a teacher at a public school of art in Bratislava. At the same time, he was engaged in free sculptural work and organizational activities. In 1983-84, he completed art studies at the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. From 1990 to 2021, he worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava/ Slovakia, where he led a sculpture studio S.O.S. /Sculptures Objectively Subjectively/ for several years. From the year 2000 to 2007, he became a chancellor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.

He has held several solo exhibitions and participated in many collective shows and symposium at home and abroad. Part of his free work are objects, installations, medals, but he also devoted himself to projects and implementations in public space. From 2013 to 2021, he was a chairman of a "sculpture monument commission" in Bratislava. Over the last couple of years, he has been working with language of abstract forms of expression and the range of its representative signs and pictorial symbols. This allows him to express his ideas more easily-  what he actually means and, moreover, to point it out with an accent. Within his last works, he creates minimalist objects in one stroke, with an open story, without forcing your version of content.

Mária Rimarčíková

Fine artist, Slovakia

"I love surprises when I have a plan in my head and yet the final image is different."

I approach my creation instinctively, enjoying the play with layers and color fields. I gradually add layers, colors, shapes, and then take them away, constantly deciding on each next step I take. I listen to classical music while I work. It feels as though I am following my intuition. The creative process fulfills me, even though it is sometimes challenging. I love surprises when I have a plan in my head and yet the final image is different.

The abstract expression allows me to convey what I cannot find words for, and even if I find words, I feel deep inside that they sometimes simply aren't enough as a means of expression.
And what I love the most is the feeling of satisfaction when I am happy with the painting in the end. I am continuously working my way through and reinforcing the belief that deep human feelings and strong will are more important than mere emotions and sensations, although I do not deny their role in human life.
I subconsciously embed my thoughts, experiences, lived realities, desires, and soul discoveries into my paintings, much like the creamy color.
I perceive deep connections between the past, present, and future. It's as if they meet/intersect in the present in a specific way. What I experienced in the past influences my present, and how I live the present will affect my future. Above all, it seems most important to me to live the present moment fully and honestly. Perhaps that's why my memories, powerful moments that have influenced my live and creation  transferred into my paintings.

Mária Rimarčíková (1973) is a Slovak painter who dedicates her work to seeking out the confluence of human existence and the transcendent. She entered the art world as a self-taught artist, and gradually her work evolved towards abstract expression and experimantation with painting, enriched with collage elements. She draws inspiration from nature and installs her paintings in natural environments. Mária perceives nature as space for contemplation, self-reflection, and meditation, qualities that are in opposition to our rushed and overexposed world today. Through her paintings, Mária Rimarčíková therefore invites the viewer to look inward, listen and rediscover inner self.

"From each of Mária´s paintings flows a "metaphysical longing" for life, synonymous with beauty, goodness, and truth, even where something unsettling occasionally emerges from the painting itself. The anticipation of eruptive explosiveness, however, the painter realizes in diametrically different, more dynamically conceived compositions. In these, she applies a profoundly dramatic, color and shape contrasting palette-knife style.
Despite the independence of Mária's paintings from nature, some directly stem from nature´s essence. Her work draws inspiration from the harmony of natural colors and shapes. Through this, she comes ever closer to spiritual and exclusively mystical content. In these moments, one cannot speak of a specific style or genre, but of an expression of a certain spiritual state, a spiritual category of "sacrum." Such intimate communication between the artist and the Creator can be found across Mária´s work, as an invisible essence of her inner joy and distinctive human and artistic perspective."

Artist’s statement
“For me art is first a tool for understanding the world. Drawing, transferring the images that arise in my head to the canvas, in some sense I ask important for me questions - about life, about difficulties and problems, their meanings and values, about the structure of the world and the human. For me paintings are an opportunity of some kind of philosophical reflection. Lines, shapes, colors, composition of thoughtful elements together tell this or that story, filled with hidden or explicit symbols. In each picture, I ask a question and try to get an answer or at least an image of it, with the help of using symbols, metaphors and allegories”.

Tímea Bezeczki

Hungarian artist

„ The road is for travel, not the destination.”  /Tímea Bezeczki/

This is my motto, which is characteristic of my whole life. I got to know painting more closely in 2022, when it turned out to me that the first encounter of fashionable 'experience painting' is also the last, not  my world. I started to browse the internet, looking for interesting painters to learn from.
I knew that I was really interested in portrait painting. For me, an old face is the most beautiful, because when I look at it, there is a whole life in it. I grew up in a village, and at that time women in aprons still walked around the village. I like simple, everyday topics that are meaningful to me. In 2023, I found  the painting school of Kálmán Gasztonyi (Gasztonyi Painter Free School), where I am still trying to learn the ins and outs of oil painting. It became a real love. It is a means of expression for me, a remedy for all ills.  There is no specific style or technique that I would highlight, I like everything. The brush, the painter's knife, fluid painting, still life, or portrait, study image, or AI.
The only thing that is important is the color, the light and the shadow, which make the picture really vivid for me. In the past year and a half, I have competed in several places, in Hungary and abroad, in internationally juried art competitions, and I am really happy with the success achieved, as I have never studied this profession. I think if I can make just one person's day better, it’s  good day.
